CrossFit Team Raises Barbells and Funds in Support of Local Teens
What: Benefit and CrossFit workout in honor of Sean and Ryan Esmond

In a story that made national headlines, Sean and Ryan Esmond were on vacation last spring with their family when they came into contact with methyl bromide, an odorless toxic chemical that seeped into their hotel room. The family subsequently became seriously ill and remained in critical condition for months. For Sean and Ryan, the road to recovery will be long with many uphill battles still left to face.
Here in Wilmington, the boys were members of CrossFit Riverfront where they attended class every afternoon after school. The CrossFit community will now gather to show their support for the teens. “It’s always an adventure with those two and I’m so proud of how far they’ve come,” said Kirsten Stallone who coached the two brothers before the accident and visits them in the hospital each week. “That same tenacity they used to get through grueling workouts can now be found in their efforts to recover.”
To honor the family, Crossfit Riverfront will host a benefit workout in honor of the Esmond brothers on Saturday, October 3. “In Crossfit, workouts are done to honor extraordinary members, to bring the community together, and to build each other up,” said Meredith Ruggio, owner of Crossfit Riverfront. “This day is to let them know that the community is behind them every step of the way.”
Funds raised from the benefit workout will go to A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital in Sean and Ryan’s names. “It’ll be a fun morning full of laughter because that is exactly what Sean and Ryan bring to every class. We want everyone to know Crossfit Riverfront is Esmond Strong,” said Stallone. Ages 12 and up are all welcome to join us for the workout. We will be open to everyone so please come join us for a day to RALLY!
